| Students concentrate core and elective courses from a variety of Colleges in a focused, integrated, interdisciplinary study of environmental issues. The program is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the complex invironmental issues and opportunities faced by society, develop and refine their environmental values, and prepare students to translate their values into practical actions in a broad spectrum of environmental or other career fields, or simply as better informed individuals. Students may enroll in the Environmental Studies program after entering a major program in any participating academic department at Southern Illinois University as Carbondale. The Environmental Studies minor will complement numerous degree programs in various Colleges at SIUC.

| Offers majors in Agribusiness Economics, General Agriculture, Animal Science, Food and Nutrition, Forestry, and Plant and Soil Science. Several specializations are available within each of these majors, many that directly involve environmental issues. | The sixteen departments in the College of Liberal Arts offer majors in twenty-four subject areas. This diversity allows students an understanding of the ever changing social, political, and physical environment.

| This is a multipurpose college preparing students as human service professionals as well as for the teaching profession. Many of the twenty-three degree programs offered through the seven departments are in cooperation with other SIUC colleges, and complement the new minor in environmental studies.
| Includes the School of Journalism, Department of Radio and Television, Department of Cinema and Photography, and the SIUC Broadcasting Service. Excellent opportunities to integrate communication, artistry, and invironmental issues.

Numerous engineering courses relate to technical aspects of environmental problems and solutions. | Offers majors through the departments of: Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Plant Biology, and Zoology, preparing undergraduate students for professional employment or graduate school, often in environmental areas. |
