An Interdisciplinary Minor |
The Environmental Studies Program at Southern Illinois University allows students to concentrate core and elective courses from a variety of Colleges in a focused, integrated, interdisciplinary study of the environment. In this program you can learn more about environmental problems and issues, take part in case studies, and explore internship opportunities.
The goals of the program are: to provide students with a basic understanding of the complex environmental issues and opportunities faced by society; to develop and refine student's environmental values from an overview of these issues; and prepare students to translate these values into practical actions in a broad spectrum of environmental or related career fields, or simply as better informed individuals. The Environmental Studies Program involves the cooperation and contribution of faculty members from a broad range of disciplines and departments. Undergraduate students may enroll in the Environmental Studies Program after entering a major program in any participating academic department at SIUC with the approval of their academic advisor and the Environmental Studies Coordinator. For students completing the core and elective courses (totaling 15 hours), the program leads to an academic minor. The Environmental Studies Program is not a major. You earn a bachelor's degree through one of SIUC's departments; your minor program in Environmental Studies complements your major.
